Rehearsal Notes:
Tech Day 1 - 3/19
GOOD FIRST DAY OF TECH!!!
But... we can do better!
Tuesday we will focus on paying better attention and not talking backstage
If anyone would like to practice at school, Ms. Eckert has opened up her room during Period 5 to hang out and run lines or review choreography.
Also, two of our chimney sweeps broke today. Please be careful with them. We don't have extras and I made each and every one of those with my own two hands.
Tomorrow, we will begin with Act 2.

GOOD FIRST DAY OF TECH!!!
But... we can do better!
Tuesday we will focus on paying better attention and not talking backstage
- Lillian and Linda - you exited too early after "The Perfect Nanny"
- We need to get a taped up list for Mary to read from
- Bert - Excellent use of the stage during Jolly Holiday. Keep it up.
- Neleus - Good job today!
- Kids - you need to look way more excited. A statue literally just came to life!
- CLOSE THE DOORS!!!
- Sophia Fish - when you reveal the good cake, hold it up for a second so the audience can see
- Giuliana - good job singing today. Your intonation is excellent.
- Ella - your solo is beautiful. Make us cry.
- Matt (and all cast members) - NO SNEAKERS
- Stage crew - you keep putting the triangles in the wrong place for Spoonful. I can't keep reminding you.
- Alessandra - your skirt for the bank scene is too bright. Try to find another one.
- LEARN THE LYRICS FOR PRECISION AND ORDER!!!!!!!!!
- Grace, Whitney, and Kyra - GREAT JOB
- Bird song - DO NOT wear your Supercalif stuff. You will look ridiculous. If you are in the bank scene, do not change afterward.
- Why am I seeing so many arms and legs sticking out from backstage? Also, stop sitting on the risers when you should not be on stage. Seriously??
- Linda and Lillian - in Supercalif, stay in the front line. Do not run around to the back with the rest of the line.
- Linda and Lillian - During the "daddy's mean and I hate him" scene, and the one after, please be more angry. We have to leave the audience with a cliffhanger at the end of Act 1 and they need to feel the tension between the family members. Also, do not change into your pajamas until Bert and Mary's dance.
- Everyone - LEARN YOUR LINES!!! I can't believe I still have to say this -_-
- Bert and Mary, great job dancing today. It looks way better.
- Act 2 opening scene, please learn your lines... omg
- Ally - great job. Your timing was great and I love the choices you are making. Keep it up.
- Kite scene - Um.... Lines??????
- Beginning of kite scene - take the whole scene stage left. Don't forget.
- Don't forget to leave time for applause after every song
- Mary and Miss Andrew - plant your feet when you are "fighting"
- George - nice job looking for Miss Andrew
- LEARN. YOUR. LINES.
- Hold your chimney sweeps right side up please
- Step in Time - please sing at the beginning. It's a musical... you have to sing.
- Bert and Mary - awesome harmonies

Wednesday, Feb 14 - COSTUMES LISTED BELOW
- Step in Time
- Good job! The choreography looks better and better each time we run this. Keep it up!
- Don't forget to march around George clockwise. And make it look like you're constantly moving. Don't just stand there.
- Finale
- Banks family - look more like a happy family! This is the first time in the show where there isn't any fighting or tension. You need to look happier.
- Linda - be more excited when Grace gives you the kite! Act like all your hopes and dreams have just come true!
- Ensemble - the dancing looks amazing! Your energy was so intense. I just need you to have that same energy for Supercalif... and Step in Time.
- Giuliana - remember to enter after Jane and Michael give their lines. It is important that the audience doesn't see you before then.
- Act I finale
- Stage crew - good job with the transitions. Keep up the good work!
- Bert and Mary - I know the dancing is hard right now but you have to stay in character. We will give you much more time to practice the dancing, so don't worry about it. But until then... STAY IN CHARACTER!!!
- Brimstone pt 1
- Ally - GREAT JOB! It sounds great and I love the character choices you are making. Just make sure you remember to send your energy out to the audience. We don't want to lose any of your lines.
- General note
- Cast and crew - We are down to the wire here. It is almost tech week, which means it is almost time for all your hard work to pay off. We are very proud of all that you have accomplished so far. That being said, we still have more work to do. I need concentration levels to be up and chatting levels to be down. I would hate to have to cut scenes or cut the curtain call just because we don't have any time left to learn them.
- Cast - Mrs. Barth and I are getting some news about many of you getting your costumes from the costume shop. While we appreciate your ambition, you may also go to thrift stores to buy your costumes. It is much cheaper and it gives you a chance to be creative! You never know what you will find. Ms. Eckert recommends Unique in South Plainfield, which is a 15 minute drive from Central School. Remember, costumes are due Saturday and must be approved by me! (Jake)
- COSTUMES
- Ensemble members - anyone who is in the background for the following scenes:
- Prologue - regular British looking clothes (skirt and blouse, pants and jacket, etc.) Remember, London usually has foggy weather. Nothing too vibrant.
- Jolly Holiday - same thing, but if you want to change it up a bit, feel free! Think about what someone would wear to the park on a sunny day.
- Precision and Order/any bank scenes - brown, gray, or dark blue suits. Something someone would wear to work at a bank, but nothing too vibrant.
- Feed the Birds - those of you in the bank scene may stay in those clothes. Otherwise, you may wear regular British clothes from the Prologue.
- Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - Bright, vibrant, crazy, colorful clothing!
- Kite song - same clothes as Jolly Holiday
- Step in Time - ALL BLACK!
- Finale - pick your favorite costume from the show!
- Ensemble members - anyone who is in the background for the following scenes:
Week of February 26
- We had a rocky start to rehearsal but we ended up getting a lot done.
- My only complaint from rehearsal is the lack of concentration. There is way too much talking on stage and in the music room. It needs to stop so we can be more productive.
- Here are the most important things all of you can do to practice at home:
- Review song lyrics and parts
- Practice singing with the rehearsal tracks
- People who have lines - LEARN THEM!!! IT IS ALMOST TECH!!!!! Practice your lines with family members, friends, teachers......
- Go through your scripts and review your blocking, exits, entrances, etc.
- Review your choreography. Use the practice tracks and practice dancing alone or with friends.
- FOCUS ON ENERGY! Sometimes when we run songs, you have so much energy! Sometimes you don't. It needs to be EVERY TIME from now on! You can do this!
- Friday the 16th, we are having a final music rehearsal. If you have a solo or small group part and would like clarification from me, let me know that day. This rehearsal will be review, so it is up to you to figure out what you need extra help with.
- Good job so far everyone. It is almost show time. You got this!
Saturday, February 24
- Wow! What a productive day!
- I was not able to see most of Step In Time, but what I did see was very good so far. Ms. Eckert told me that you all are working very hard so keep it up.
- Once again, you guys did a great job singing in Room 8. There was a lot of energy. However, on stage I am not seeing as much energy. We have to start getting into the right mindset for the show (which is in a month!!) so that means keeping energy levels very high, staying in character (ensemble AND leads), and doing the best work you can do!
- Thank you all so much for helping with painting stuff. It was a nice break from being on stage.
- Kite song - we have to review the notes again. "Up to the highest height" is still wrong. Otherwise, it sounds good! We will review this scene further.
- Sweeps 1, 2, 3, 4 - please use the practice tracks button on the rehearsal schedule page to learn the beginning of "Step In Time." This is very important.
- Bert - Please use the practice tracks to learn your little solo songs. This is also very important.
- Supercalif............ needs a lot more energy than that. I know we ran it at the end of a long, hot rehearsal, but I know you guys can do better. It was great today, and you guys can make it amazing!
- Overall, we had a very productive rehearsal! Keep up the good work and remember to keep up the energy!
Wednesday, February 14
- Good work today!
- Talking Shop Scene
- Bert, Mary, Jane, Michael - slow down your entrance. People don't usually walk that fast.
- Maddie, work on your character. I know this was the first day working on this scene, but in the future I would like you to explore Mrs. Corry's character. She is very loud and flamboyant.
- Everyone with lines in this scene, please go over your lines and think about the significance of each sentence. Explore different ways to deliver this scene.
- Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
- The leaning at the beginning needs to be SUPER big.
- Jane and Mary, your lines on pg. 58 need to be delivered more clearly.
- Jess, you are way too far downstage for the "Stone Age men" part. Just take a step upstage and find a good place to stand.
- Stone Age men, tall people, remember to direct your energy upward rather than towards the short people.
- Mrs. Corry, good job with your solo! I like the way you walk down the "aisle" between the two groups.
- Good job on the "yums." The balance is very good.
- "If you say it softly..." Please make sure you are all starting on the proper side. Many of you are not.
- Reaching part of "um diddles," you all need to increase the energy each time. So it is like a crescendo (gradually going soft to loud), but with movements.
- I like the clump for "suoicodilaipxecitsiligarfilacrepus!" Keep it up!
- Bert, please go over the words. "Pick out those eighteen consonants......." And don't forget "smarty pants" and "here we go!"
- Everyone - I am so impressed by this dance. You guys make it look easy. Keep up the good work.
- Jane and Michael, don't forget to move to the center during the "free time"
- Everyone needs to go over the dance moves from mm. 141-152. This part is going to look so good once we get it down.
Monday, February 12
- Good job today. Although we did not finish all of "Supercalif......." we did get a good chunk of the song covered. That being said, Mrs. Barth, Ms. Eckert and I expect you all to be more focused during rehearsal in the future.
- Pg. 59 -- "Stone Age men" - this part is looking really good. Keep it up!
- Pg. 60 -- Review the steps for page 60 at home. We will not be reteaching these.
- Pg. 61-62 -- The reaching/leaning during "um diddle" needs to be more pronounced.
- Pg. 62 -- The clump looks really good. Don't forget to move once Bert starts singing.
- Pg. 63 -- Good job Scar! The dancing looks really good.
- Pg. 63-64 -- You are all doing very well with the spelling dance. Please review it at home and add in your singing part, whether you are the melody or the echo, so we don't have to spend time during rehearsal going over that.
- Pg. 65 -- You guys forgot the dance moves at the end of the song. Please review what you remember at home and we will go over it again next time.
